WAR is coming!
Mythic Entertainment | Warhammer Online The countdown has officially begun. Mark your calendars! September 18th is the Day of Reckoning.
All I can say is “w00t”!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. Not for a lack of want, but more of time. You see, a lot has happened since the release of Age of Conan. Our guild has moved forward on many fronts, especially as it comes to planning an expansion into the world of Hyboria and that of Warhammer.
Now the time for WAR is fast approaching, as well as the expansions for WoW and LOTRO. Let the good times roll! Now THIS is time well wasted.
1 commentServer move complete
Hi all,
I have finally moved the blog to a paid server, one without silly ads popping up everywhere, annoying the hell out of everyone.
I will be continuing to maintain this blog and updating the content, look and feel of the site. Until I’m happy with the way things are, there might be things that break. So to my (singular) blog readers, I ask for patience as things will move around and might even break!
In the mean time, enjoy the banter that I call my “opinion” about all things MMO.

No commentsFebruary, where have you gone?
February has come and gone by so fast. It’s been really hectic on my end of things. We have had a new addition to the family, which has kept me busy (to say the least) for quite a while. It’s been almost 2 months now and it seems like yesterday we brought her home. In any case, I just wanted to touch back here and get my mind wrapped around this project again.
It’s been fairly quiet on the MMO scene. The big players have been pretty quiet with nothing major to annouce. I guess all the buzz over the holidays took a break and the publishers are anxiously awaiting the coming of spring to start spreading wild fires again. March will be an interesting month…I can just feel it in my gut. Or is that the chilli? Whatever it is, we’ll just have to wait and see.
In the mean time, I’ve hit Azeroth back with my guildies to get my mind into the guild frame of mind and to be able to find a group of players/people/friends to help me launch my project. Hopefully, things take off pretty quickly.
Ta ta for now and I’ll see you on the internets…all of them.

No commentsJanuary ADHD
Well, the new year has been quite busy and time consuming for me. The latest addition to our family arrived on the 4th; Erika-Marie was born with no complications and was quite the site to see out of our blood-shot eyes. With fatigue, of course, came a compromised immune system and the flu. So the past 2 and a half weeks have been dedicated to lack of sleep, baby feedings, diapers changes and the containment of infected bodily fluids.
This month is a slow month for me. But I have had a few ides pop into my head in my drugged stupor. I hope they will see the light of day.
Here’s what’s new:
- I’m still waiting for some beta invites
- Age of Conan realease date gets pushed back 8 weeks
- Barbershops and boutiques are on their way to Middle-Earth
- Star Trek Online’s front page is devoid of access to the rest of the site, after P2 Entertainment is laid off of development duties for the title.
- The Burning Crusade celebrates its first birthday
- Pirates of the Burning Sea released on January 22, 2008
- Star Gate Worlds Online gets a new front page and is interviewed by IGN
That’s about it for now. As I come accross more interesting things, I’ll make sure to post them. Until then, I will be thoroughly enjoying my flu.

No commentsOpening Holes to Play Online Games
When you get your new online game, you really just want to install it and play. Some, actually look at the instructions and notice you are asked to open a slew of ports. Others just try to connect and find that it fails. Each may lead to the step of searching how you open these ports or why you need to.
The newer type of online games want to provide rich features to the user base. They like to push automatic updates to you, provide news through a game management client, in-game advertisement, monitor your PC while playing and report this information back, etc… Still, all of these should be outbound connections and shouldn’t require you to open a single port inbound (unless you are hosting a game or running a server).
I believe the following are possible problems when a game asks you to open up several inbound ports:
1 commentAre You Safe in that MMO?
Some of you may have heard of the book, Exploiting Online Games by Greg Hogluhd and Gary McGraw, which is a modern day look at the security of MMO’s.
If you haven’t been paying attention, you may not have noticed that the virtual items in online games are producing real currency. For some who realize this, they have taken an aggressive and efficient approach to obtaining the virtual items needed to make cash through the use of bots or other tools. Others use phishing attacks, malware, trojans, keyloggers, and more to obtain access to your account and then steal all of your items which you have worked so hard for.

For those of you who want to learn more about the game systems in Age of Conan, there is an extensive fan-made video F.A.Q. that contains tidbits of information about the entire game, taken from many articles, interviews and FAQs. Check it out by cliking here. Great work…props to Ben “Acolyte” Avery! Check it out, it’s great!
No commentsVanguard to old player base : “Please come back and look at we’ve done”
** Official News Item HERE. **
Well, SOE has done it now. They have pretty much made Vanguard : Saga of Heroes the game it SHOULD have been at launch. Now, they are sending out invites to everyone with a VG account with no subscription. They have given everyone of those people with good account standing and given everyone access to the game until January 20, 2008 (or something like that). Also, there’s currently a 50% XP bonus for the holidays, until January 3rd, 2008. So anyone that wants to give this game another try, go ahead and check it out…in case you’ve missed the e-mail. Personally, I think they’ve done a good job of polishing the game and making it actually playable. I wish VG well.

I came accross this post on GMTristan.com, about crimes related to MMOs. Have a look-see…click HERE. It’s an interesting read.
